Yes, a driver is needed but the fact that the computer didn't "chime" means it isn't seeing any hardware connection. Until I can get this to work, there is no sense trying to get Starry Night Pro toĬommunicate with the Telescope until I can get the com ports to appear.Ĭorrect, until you can get Windows to recognize the hand control is connected and Windows has a comm port listed, it isn't going to work.

I am assuming that I need to install the Prolific PL2303 driver for this to work? That the driver is installed but I never see ports in Device Driver. I then installed the Prolific USB-to-Serial Driver from the Nexstar site and It doesn't look like it's recognizing anything.Ĥ. So, that is the comm port you must configure in ASCOM or any other computer software you are using.įor more troubleshooting, see this section of my website and read through the article "Troubleshooting Serial and USB Connection Problems": You can confirm it is indeed the hand control by unplugging the USB cable - it will disappear from Device Manager when you do. You should see a "Communications Port" with COMx next to it - that would be the serial port assigned to the hand control. You should see a section named something like "Ports (COM & LPT)" - click the little arrowhead next to that to expand that section. NexRemote becomes the active "hand control" when you use it so you won't be able to use the StarSense auto alignment system. I bought the usb ‘b’ mini cable and connected it bewteen my laptop and bottom of Star Sense Controller and I am unable to communicate to the telescope using Starry Night Pro Plus application on my Windows 10 laptop. You should research the subject specifically for a Mac, as like Unix nothing happens automagically as it does in Windows.įrom a quick Google I saw this post. Yes you can use a cable, but on the Mac you are going to have the activate the appropriate serial port and set the parameters in a config file. When I press "connect" from the software, I get an error that the parameters are not configured correctly or that the cable is not connected.
